Carmen Moreira is the Executive Director and Choreographer of SQx Dance Company (sqxdance.org) a registered Canadian charity based in South Slocan, BC, which she founded in 2012. Carmen is also the EU Cooperation Projects Manager for Município de Vila do Porto on the island of Santa Maria in Açores, Portugal. Carmen graduated from Mount Allison University (BA Hons) in 2008 and London Contemporary Dance School (BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance) in 2011. Her performances and program designs use contemporary dance to foster positive social change and target vulnerable populations. Carmen’s work has been supported by Government of Canada, Province of British Columbia, Columbia Basin Trust, Canadian Tire - Jumpstart, Telus, Governo dos Açores, and the European Commission. Her work has been presented across Canada, Europe and in Mexico and Morocco. Because of the long-term repercussions of congenital heart disease, Carmen identifies as a disability artist.
