Iván David Nieves
Iván David Nieves is a specialist in audiovisual production, excelling in the documentary field and the study of Puerto Rican cinema. His academic preparation includes a Master's in Audiovisual Production, a Master's in Television Scriptwriting, a Master's in Business Administration, and a Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications and Advertising. As an audiovisual professional, he has taken on roles such as producer, director, documentary researcher, screenwriter, cameraman, director of photography, and editor. He is the founder and executive director of Producciones Oasis, a company dedicated to producing educational audiovisual material. With this company, he has created indigenous-themed documentaries such as "Caguana: Our Taíno Heritage" and "Tibes: Our Indigenous Roots." Currently, he is working on several Puerto Rican documentaries covering diverse themes. As an educator, he has taught communications courses at various universities in the country. In radio, he produced and hosted the first program dedicated to Puerto Rican cinema, "Corriendo Cámara," broadcasted on Noticias 1660 and 1140 11Q, both AM stations. As a defender and promoter of Puerto Rican cinema, he was a member of the board of directors of the Puerto Rican Association of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers, the Puerto Rican Association of Scriptwriters and Playwrights, and is a co-founder and current member of the Puerto Rican Association of Documentary Filmmakers. He has also co-produced two plays: "Las Mujeres de Juárez" and "Adoración y la Vieja." In addition, he has worked at the Moving Image Archive, digitizing Puerto Rican films for preservation, which has allowed him to better understand our cinematic legacy and contribute to its preservation against the inevitable deterioration of time. Aside from his educational role, Iván has produced fiction short films and collaborated on independent productions of other filmmakers. In summary, his varied academic preparation and extensive experience have equipped him to face all professional challenges and move towards new cinematic horizons. His motto as a documentarian is: "When we make documentaries, we are contributing to our culture, and when we work for our country, we are building our nation."
