James Mottern

James Mottern is an award-winning screenwriter and director. A recipient of the Academy Nicholl Award for Screenwriting, Mottern began his career in television documentaries for Discovery and BBC. He later wrote and directed the acclaimed film TRUCKER starring Michelle Monaghan about a female long-haul truck driver's search for identity and personal freedom. His film BY THE GUN starring Harvey Keitel and Ben Barnes tells the story of a young mob hitman who seeks to find the truth in a system of lies and corruption. Mottern's documentary film MARK, WHAT'S THE PLAN? is an unflinching look at social media and the man who controls the minds of billions including children, all for profit. Mottern's film company American Stories is now producing the feature documentary A BEAST TOUCH THE MOUNTAIN: Mountain Valley Pipeline and the Fight for Appalachia which he also directs.
