Stefano Giannotti (1963), composer, performer, radio-artist and video-maker. In the field of video-art, between 2003 and 2020 he has produced several shorts in-between video-clips, experimental cinema, animation and anthropologic documentaries, sometimes cross-over disciplines like performance and radio-art. His works have been shown in several film-festivals and contemporary art venues, among which: Radio_Copernicus (Wroclaw 2005), Cucalorus Film festival (Willmington NC 2007-2010-2011), Globians Film Fest Berlin (2008-2010), Urban Nomad (Taipei 2007-2010-2017), Strasbourg International Film Festival (2008-2010), Lucca Film Festival (Lucca, 2012-2016-2018-2020), etc. In 2021 he started a year video-art project for socials (Facebook-Instagram-Youtube) entitled Instant Scapes. In 2023-24 he has produced The Remixed City, a surrealistic video-collage about the ideal city. A selection from video-art: Bolle (2003-2005) – Video-installation or video-screening. Some bubbles explode in a water-pond, doubled by a miriad of different synchronized sounds. A by-chance landscape event is transformed into a real score, a visible scheme regulating the delicate borderline between alea and structure. Produced for Radio_Copernicus (Wroclaw, Poland 2005) Dur. 30 min. An hybrid form in-between a music composition, a video-art project, a study on people’s habits. Produced for Art as Environment – A Cultural Action in Tropics of Cancer 2006 Dur. 63 min. http://stefanogiannotti.com/en/video/chiayi-symphony/ The Walbrzych Notebook (2005-2010) an anthropological portrait of the Polish town of Walbrzych, a former mining site active until the 90s; after a period of crisis, due to the closing of the mines and the consequent firing of hundreds of workers, the city starts today to show some signs of renewal. The video focuses on spaces and people moving inside this reality, it explores the effects, but avoids any kind of historical or scientific speculation on what has happened. Production: Stefano Giannotti Dur. 71:30 http://stefanogiannotti.com/en/video/the-walbrzych-notebook/ Orfeo e Moira (2018) In the Greek myth, Orpheus sings through mountains and valleys, despairing because he turned to see his Eurydice, thus causing her death. In this song, Orpheus sings through mountains and valleys, despairing because he didn’t turn around in time, and his Moira was torn to pieces by a lioness. Dedicated to the Queen of the Circus Moira Orfei, the video is a video-clip for a song by Stefano Giannotti/OTEME (from the album Il corpo nel sogno, Ma.Ra.Cash Records - MRC 072, 2018) Dur. 6:59 http://stefanogiannotti.com/en/video/orpheus-and-moira/ E c’è qualcuno (2020) Happy swimmers splash and play ball among the clouds. A few motorboats arrive. Someone dives. The air is calm. AND THERE’S SOMEONE, the song that accompanies the video, tells of people who are about to die, the terminally ill; someone knows, someone pretends not to know, someone has already reached the last port. Sometimes with a smile on their face. The song, part of the music project SAY HELLO TO THE CLOUDS by OTEME, is the reworking of an interview with Mariola Krajczewska, Stefano Giannotti’s wife, a healthcare assistant at the Hospice of San Cataldo, from the 2012 documentary SAY HELLO TO THE CLOUDS. Video and music: Stefano Giannotti Lyrics: Mariola Krajczewska – Stefano Giannotti Dur. 5:26 http://stefanogiannotti.com/en/video/and-theres-someone-2020/ Instant Scapes (2021-2022) Instant Scapes is almost an anthropological observation of our daily lives, our social rituals, the environments in which we move, through a series of short 30-second videos, excluding titles, cut in 9:16, which is the size of a mobile phone screen and the maximum duration that the human-social can (perhaps) bear today. The project, launched on 3 January 2022, will run for a year, until 30 December, with three publications a week on Instagram (4:5), Facebook and once a month on YouTube (16:9) as the collection of the month. Conceived as paintings or tableaux vivants Instant Scapes also represents a study of possible music for possible situations; electronic pieces alternate with acoustic actions and instrumental miniatures crossing genres and artistic disciplines. Dur. 78 min (loop) More info at: http://stefanogiannotti.com/en/videos/
