A PERFECT WASTE OF TIME

When we don’t share the same obsession, hobbies can be hard to understand. They appear time consuming, often expensive and even pointless. But hobbies can also offer us peace, and an immeasurable sense of fulfillment. Beginning this project Tessa & Mirte weren’t sure what had motivated their father’s lifelong hobby of breeding Welsh Mountain Ponies. In the seven years that followed it became clear what was at stake for him - recreating perfect ponies that had been lost, sustaining the historic breed, and most importantly, winning. Tessa & Mirte work on a film about their father Marius and his Oisterwijk Welsh Mountain Pony stud from 2015 until 2022. The result is a portrait of a father by two daughters. ‘A Perfect Waste of Time’ tells a story about endless patience, and the unbreakable generational thread between breeders and ponies.
