ECHOS IN MOUNT WA
This film portrays the journey of Lao You, the leader of the "Cave Living band" in Yunnan Province, adapting Wa folk music into pop music, while reflecting on and exploring the original culture of the Chinese Wa ethnic group. Using an urban music anthropology perspective and participatory observation, the film demonstrates the collision and fusion of local pop music and Wa intangible cultural heritage rooted in folk music. The film depicts how local musicians come into contact with and learn ethnic music, tightly integrate folk music with pop music styles, and create pop music imbued with profound ethnic connotations. The film adopts an urban music anthropology perspective, highlighting the convergence and evolution of Yunnan's popular music and Wa folk music while exploring the significance of traditional folk music in modern-day music.
