A keen hiker and passionate nature observer. A cadet in the imperial royal navy. A morse code operator in Bulgaria and Istanbul. Joined the NSDAP full of hope and left it disappointed. Gifted with a strong sense of colour, acclaimed and commissioned by German museums from the 1920ies till 1937 when he was banned as a “degenerate“ artist. A poetic film portrait of the Austrian painter Artur Nikodem. In a museum‘s depot paintings are being restored and prepared for exhibition. A girl in a red dress remembers vividly. The film largely does without biographical information and art history. It relies on the works: Nikodem’s paintings, photographs, sketches and diary entries carry the narration. We follow his brush strokes, have time to immerse ourselves, come closer to his artistic intentions. And to his love. A focused and quiet, a thrilling and colourful film about art.
