Barely a century ago, a remarkable material emerged, promising to transform our lives for the better. It was plastic, a marvel of innovation that beckoned with the prospect of a more convenient and attractive future. Picture a world where limitless possibilities unfolded. Containers that resisted shattering, toys that defied wear, and packaging that preserved the freshness of our food. Plastic offered a realm of boundless potential, where intricate designs could be effortlessly molded. We were captivated by its adaptability and convenience, enticed by the promise of having it all and making our lives easier. But in the mid-20th century, we started to become aware of the true nature of plastic, and it was a dangerous one. The negative impact that it was having in our health and in the environment started to become obvious. In just a few decades, our oceans became clogged with discarded plastic, landfills overflowed with non-biodegradable waste, and our landscapes were marred by this enduring substance we had once celebrated as beautiful. “Reverie” is a video piece that represents plastic’s deceptive seduction. A plastic sheet dances in the wind, its movements capturing the paradox of our misguided affair with this material. Its mesmerizing and sinuous movements encapsulate the enchantment we once felt with plastic's false promises. Reverie is a reflection on our collective journey, where we eagerly embraced the allure of plastic, captivated by its gleam, only to realize too late that its charm concealed the damage it would inflict upon us and our planet. As the plastic sheet flutters, we are urged to reconsider the narrative we have woven around this material. Plastic was introduced as a savior, a symbol of progress and convenience. Reverie questions whether it is too late to rewrite this story, to find the beauty in undoing the harm that has been done and rekindling our connection with a world that does not depend on the seductive charm of plastic but rather, on our ability to live in harmony with the earth that sustains us.
