Growing up in a small town, I discovered my passion for storytelling through church plays and performances. As I took on various roles, I found myself drawn to assisting the director in the creative process, including writing and directing. Raised in the 70s during a time of black empowerment, I became fascinated with exploring stories from the perspective of Black women. I have a deep love for research and documentaries, and I enjoy delving into different genres and aspects of storytelling. Throughout the years, I honed my skills and talents as a makeup artist and screenwriter. I pursued my education in broadcast communication with a concentration in journalism at North Carolina Central University. I also pursued a minor in English, which further enriched my understanding of screenwr. My belief in justice and the power of storytelling to bring about positive change drives me to tell stories that can move the world forward in a peaceful and relatable manner. I aim to create visual dialogues that resonate with diverse audiences. In my creative journey, I have had the privilege of learning from and working alongside renowned directors such as David Newman, EVA Gardos, and Richard Freeman, among others. Their guidance and inspiration have shaped my artistic path, and I strive to pass on their wisdom while honoring the legacy of trailblazing African-American and women of color directors before me. Originating from North Carolina, specifically Chapel Hill, my family roots have inspired me to tell a civil rights story that I plan to produce and direct in the near future. While pursuing my education in film, I faced personal challenges, experiencing the loss of my father and daughter. However, these hardships have taught me resilience and the importance of never giving up on my dreams. They serve as a reminder that life is unpredictable, and it is crucial to leave a lasting impact while we have the opportunity. I am honored to have the opportunity to share my work at the festival and look forward to engaging with the audience through my storytelling.
