Jaan Tootsen’s GOOD LUCK MR PRESIDENT takes a wry look at the second term of Toomas Ilves’ Presidency of Estonia, the years across which Putin flexed: supporting Assad, invading Crimea and launching the world’s first cyber-attack (against Estonia). But, just as Estonia refused to kneel to Putin’s threats, GOOD LUCK MR PRESIDENT eschews the diktats of the political film. Instead of speeches, Tootsen’s camera lingers on President Ilves coping with divorce, flirting and trying to stay true to his techie- and music-nerd self despite an onslaught of daily absurdities.
