During the Belgian colonization, in Congo, Rwanda and Burundi, several thousand mixed-race children were victims of a targeted segregation, which is still unknown today. Born of a Belgian father and an African mother, these children were hidden and isolated by the State, taken from their families, then placed in specialized boarding schools. On the eve of independence, it was even a forced exile, a legal kidnapping, which was organised: several hundred of them were thus torn away definitively from their mother, their culture and their roots, to be expatriated to Belgium, and adopted in foster families. This film tells the story of Evariste and Lena, Charles, François, Luc and Eveline. Sixty years after the events, these witnesses are now looking back on their past, pursuing the search for their roots and their identity, and still seeking to close the wounds of childhood.
