Pat Tremblay
Born in 1972 in Montreal, Pat Tremblay grew mainly as a self-taught artist. After taking a 2-year course in cinema at Cegep Ahuntsic, his university application got rejected back in 1991. Something that didnโt discourage him in pursuing his own artistic projects. Since then, Pat has almost single-handedly produced, directed, edited, and did the visual/practical effects on his 3 feature films ("๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐น: ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐น ๐๐ฎ๐ต๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป" (2006), "๐๐ฒ๐น๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ผ๐๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐: ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ผ๐ต๐ป ๐๐น๐ฎ๐๐" (2011) and "๐๐๐บ๐ผ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ซ" (2016)). He also recorded experimental music and many other genres, producing, writing and often playing in his multi-musician and eclectic band named "๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐๐ถ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐", which includes anyone from musically-illiterates to a few known artists. The group has put out 5 albums and one EP since 1995. Pat has drawn for the major part of his childhood and adolescence. After discovering Photoshop in the mid 90s, he got to work in graphic design, making among other things, album covers for heavy metal bands. He then more or less left drawing for a bit while he was pursuing his other artistic endeavors. While recently trying to find financing for his next feature films, he decided to keep his creative juices flowing by getting back to his artwork, since strongly needing to do something that was rawer and immediate, like having a real-time relation with his art as opposed to the more passive process of building a film from A to Z through years of spread-out work. That lead to an ongoing series of abstracts portraits that both uses the pen to paper and digital coloring. There are over 300 of those on his website and hundreds still waiting to be colored... But in order to branch out his creativity and satisfy his hunger for more intricate works, Pat started doing a series of Psychedelic Sculptures in 2018 entitled "๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ถ๐ด๐ป ๐ง๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ถ๐ฐ ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ฒ๐". Pat has sold 24 pieces with his 3 exhibits & commissioned works so far. Then 2022 came around, and he discovered a new technology called AI imagery. Fascinated by this medium, Pat began experimenting with each new version of Midjourney as it was released, exploring its capabilities and generating over 35K images โ the vast majority of which remain unreleased. The concept of "๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐" began around the same time, as he explored whether this fantastic new tool that could bring to life his visual love for swamps, monsters, cryptic esoterica, wool costumes, experimental visuals and retro-styled aesthetics. Eventually, he ended up with hundreds of images from that world and began to wonder what they might become if translated into film. This led to the idea of transforming those images into another one of his passions: movie posters. That concept evolved into a conceptual book titled "๐ง๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐น๐บ๐: ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฑ๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ ๐ผ๐๐ถ๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ผ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ & ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐๐ถ๐น๐บ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐๐". Friends from the horror movie business helped him gather a roster of talented people working in the genre to take part in the project. He invited 50 of them to choose from a curated lot of 100 posters he had created with Midjourney and reworked in Photoshop. Each collaborator was asked to write an imaginary review for their selected poster โ as if the film had been released in the AI dimension, and they were the first to see it. The result was a unique 108-page book, launched in the summer of 2023 at the renowned Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. 17 of the collaborators attended, and 10 read their fictional reviews aloud to an enthusiastic audience. In addition to the artwork, Patโs personal contribution to the book was a review for "๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐: ๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐' ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐", which also introduced the mythology behind this "massive" cultural phenomenon within the AI Dimension. And as AI video tools became increasingly better, he decided it was time to bring that world further more into our reality. The result is an early glimpse into their abstract, psychedelic, and horrific ordeals โ in the form of a 10-minute short film entitled "๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐: ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐น๐๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐".
