Pat Tremblay

Born in 1972 in Montreal, Pat Tremblay grew mainly as a self-taught artist. After taking a 2-year course in cinema at Cegep Ahuntsic, his university application got rejected back in 1991. Something that didnโ€™t discourage him in pursuing his own artistic projects. Since then, Pat has almost single-handedly produced, directed, edited, and did the visual/practical effects on his 3 feature films ("๐—›๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น: ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—š๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—น ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐˜‚ ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐—˜๐˜… (2016)). He also recorded experimental music and many other genres, producing, writing and often playing in his multi-musician and eclectic band named "๐—ฉ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐˜€ ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐˜๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€", which includes anyone from musically-illiterates to a few known artists. The group has put out 5 albums and one EP since 1995. Pat has drawn for the major part of his childhood and adolescence. After discovering Photoshop in the mid 90s, he got to work in graphic design, making among other things, album covers for heavy metal bands. He then more or less left drawing for a bit while he was pursuing his other artistic endeavors. While recently trying to find financing for his next feature films, he decided to keep his creative juices flowing by getting back to his artwork, since strongly needing to do something that was rawer and immediate, like having a real-time relation with his art as opposed to the more passive process of building a film from A to Z through years of spread-out work. That lead to an ongoing series of abstracts portraits that both uses the pen to paper and digital coloring. There are over 300 of those on his website and hundreds still waiting to be colored... But in order to branch out his creativity and satisfy his hunger for more intricate works, Pat started doing a series of Psychedelic Sculptures in 2018 entitled "๐—™๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป ๐—ง๐—ผ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—›๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜€". Pat has sold 24 pieces with his 3 exhibits & commissioned works so far. Then 2022 came around, and he discovered a new technology called AI imagery. Fascinated by this medium, Pat began experimenting with each new version of Midjourney as it was released, exploring its capabilities and generating over 35K images โ€” the vast majority of which remain unreleased. The concept of "๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€" began around the same time, as he explored whether this fantastic new tool that could bring to life his visual love for swamps, monsters, cryptic esoterica, wool costumes, experimental visuals and retro-styled aesthetics. Eventually, he ended up with hundreds of images from that world and began to wonder what they might become if translated into film. This led to the idea of transforming those images into another one of his passions: movie posters. That concept evolved into a conceptual book titled "๐—ง๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐—ป ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—œ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—บ๐˜€: ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—›๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐— ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€ & ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ฟ ๐—™๐—ถ๐—น๐—บ ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€". Friends from the horror movie business helped him gather a roster of talented people working in the genre to take part in the project. He invited 50 of them to choose from a curated lot of 100 posters he had created with Midjourney and reworked in Photoshop. Each collaborator was asked to write an imaginary review for their selected poster โ€” as if the film had been released in the AI dimension, and they were the first to see it. The result was a unique 108-page book, launched in the summer of 2023 at the renowned Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. 17 of the collaborators attended, and 10 read their fictional reviews aloud to an enthusiastic audience. In addition to the artwork, Patโ€™s personal contribution to the book was a review for "๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€: ๐—”๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜…๐—ฎ๐˜€' ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜„๐˜€", which also introduced the mythology behind this "massive" cultural phenomenon within the AI Dimension. And as AI video tools became increasingly better, he decided it was time to bring that world further more into our reality. The result is an early glimpse into their abstract, psychedelic, and horrific ordeals โ€” in the form of a 10-minute short film entitled "๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€: ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜‚๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—”๐—ฏ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜…
