With a career that spans over four decades and across the globe, Jamaican singer Pat Powell (Patou) is one of Australia’s most accomplished yet hidden vocal talents. He is the artist that everyone wants to work with – the singer’s singer who sings with 15 bands, including the ARIA award-winning Melbourne Ska Orchestra. Born in the UK to Jamaican parents, Pat left the racism of the UK as soon as he could, although ‘stupidly’ found his way to Australia with its own racism issues. Father to four children from different mothers with varying ethnic backgrounds, Pat’s children all identify differently and raise a discussion about racism and where identity comes from.

Pachamama is a documentary short film that shows the connection of the native peoples of the Andes in South America with nature, their respect and gratitude to mother earth. An audiovisual piece that transports us to a land that maintains its traditions, where the role of women has been key to the preservation of the culture of these peoples. A production that makes an analogy with the feminine, staging the Aymara weavers from the town of Colchane in Chile, in a territory full of contrasts and colors like the incredible red lagoon, making it a visual delight.

Los Xey was one of the most famous musical groups worldwide. Viewed through today’s eyes, it’s difficult to gauge the musical career and life these Basques enjoyed from their creation in 1940 until they disbanded in 1961. At a time when the radio offered live shows and television had yet to appear, there wasn’t a theatre, cabaret or radio station that didn’t demand their performances. Not only did they triumph in Spain but also in America from Argentina to the US, which they toured for 9 years, even inaugurating the Mexican and Cuban televisions. They left a lasting impression for many generations. In this documentary we will recover their memory in the 21st century accompanied by their modern day counterparts the Golden Apple Quartet.

Ten years ago, it was hard to imagine that a blind person could restore vision with the help of prosthetics. Our protagonists did. Gregory and Antonina performed operations to insert an implant into the retina. After a long period of rehabilitation, they successfully use their new ‘bionic’ vision. Antonina can even read texts, written in capital letters. Today, science is on the verge of another amazing technological breakthrough: an implant for the visual cortex of the brain is being tested, and is tested right before our very eyes. So far, testing is conducted on monkeys. The dramatic stories in the film alternate with scientific conversations about the device and the true meaning of vision.
