This three-channel video and two-channel sound project explores the mystical realm of the naguala, where the boundaries between, animals, plants, earth, cosmos, reality and the supernatural dissolve and are reconfigured. The Naguala guide invites you to consider yourself beyond the human form, forever transforming, continually being woven into the fabric of life and death, the macro and the micro. The naguala asks, "Who are you outside of your skin?"

I make “Festive Silence animation”, which is my concept. In this story the butterfly is the storyteller. She invites the bird to go on an inner journey which starts in the silence of a dark forest. In order to solve current issues she prays in the forest trough lighting candles. There is a Maria cave, but for the butterfly God always has a motherly, caring form that can vary throughout the story. Later this female God becomes the Wind that created the whole universe with tender love. Together they learn that there will always be help from “above”, if they follow their soul. And the soul is materialized in the deer. This deer has the ability to look through the heart of the other, and only through the warmth of its heart, it can change things. The bird and the butterfly gradually transform synchronous and thereby can come really “home”.

At the heart of the film is the search for the Ossetian folk song "Khubady" and the fading memories associated with it, particularly in the regions of Georgia and South Ossetia. In February 2024, Keyhani, accompanied by a small film crew, visited the Georgian cities of Tbilisi, Tserovani, Ninigori, and Lagodekhi to find people who still remember this folk song. The uprooting and the longing to one day be able to "return" link the protagonists of the film to Keyhani’s own story, as well as to her family and the formative experiences of her childhood. These are memories that begin to fade, and languages that are no longer spoken. However, the film offers a hopeful look into the future, as the search itself becomes the central theme. "Search for Khubady" challenges the significance of borders and suggests that borders tend to erode identities rather than protect them. The film invites the audience to reflect on the tension between homeland, belonging, and an increasingly interconnected world.

A "Permanently Open Window" is a film loosely inspired by Jason Dodge's installation of the same name. The film is about two photographers exploring the shores of an artificial lake located in central Italy. Slowly, we realize that nature has been able to reclaim the place, creating an almost tropical environment. The hand of the human being and the imperturbable flow of nature meet in a loop made of suggestions and signs of life. The human presence in the film is demonstrated above all by the sounds (including electronic ones) that resonate in the environment.

Synopsis: "The Things We Loved“ A woman, while preparing to move, stumbles upon an old, dusty box in the attic. She has no recollection of this box, and its contents pique her curiosity. As she opens it, she discovers items from her past that she had long forgotten. The first item she finds is an old keychain. As she holds it, memories of a childhood friend and a cherished promise come flooding back. In the rush of everyday life, she had let these warm memories fade, and now, the realization that this friend is no longer around fills her with a deep sense of sorrow and longing. Next, she uncovers a crumpled letter. The letter contains a final, heartfelt message from someone she once knew but had since forgotten. As she reads, she is overwhelmed with shock and regret, and the letter compels her to reflect on the relationships she has lost and the moments she has overlooked in her life. The content of the letter reveals a profound truth, pushing her to reconcile with her past emotions and the unresolved feelings she had buried. Yet, the mystery of who sent this box and why remains unsolved. While the items in the box are clearly connected to her memories, the identity and intention of the sender are still shrouded in mystery. Determined to uncover the truth, she begins to piece together the clues, revisiting memories and the connections she once held dear. In the box's depths, she finds a faded photograph and a small candle. The photograph shows her with someone she had lost touch with long ago, someone who had meant a great deal to her. As she lights the candle, she finally understands the last request of the person in the photo and realizes that this box was a final gesture—a message that was meant to reconnect her with her past and help her find peace. Through this revelation, she decides to reconcile with her past and make an effort to restore the relationships she had neglected. Holding the lit candle, she walks towards the door. As she opens it, bright light floods into the room. She steps into the light, symbolizing her resolve to embrace a new beginning. The film concludes with this image, leaving the audience with a message of hope, courage, and the power of reconciliation.

The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) announced the selection of mixed-media artist Te Rongo Kirkwood (b. 1973, Auckland, New Zealand) as the recipient of the 38th Rakow Commission. The Museum’s Rakow Commission, in its 38th year, supports the creation of a new work in glass by an artist who pushes the boundaries of the material and who is not yet represented in CMoG’s permanent collection. The annual award was first presented in 1986, and recipients have ranged from emerging to established artists. The Seer, the Seen, the Seeing is a multi-dimensional installation that represents the artist’s most personal series in glass to date. Drawing from Māori weaving practices, Kirkwood has created a kākahu (cloak) made of glass and woven fibers, alongside a Puru hau (sacred ritual vessel) in blown glass. These two works are central symbolism to a film featuring Kirkwood and her father, set against the backdrop of their ancestral lands at Piha beach on New Zealand’s west coast. “I find it difficult to express my internal experience through words, so I turn to art to explore the layers of complexity of being alive, seeing, and perceiving,” said Kirkwood. “Recently, I've been using imagery and film to engage more directly with my work, I want to express nuance and connect on a deeper level. I love how each viewer resonates with art in their own way, bringing their unique lens of perceptions and life experiences.”

Inbal Abergil

FOUR MOTHERS share the story of four Gold Star Mothers, who discuss how to continue living after the war. Listening to the quartet describe their grief is helpful in a very practical way. They offer guidelines for dealing with loss and how to approach others who might be struggling with grief. Although specific to the circumstances of the Gold Star families, who lost their beloved ones in the American wars, it’s a useful manual for all of us, as we will all encounter loss, both our own and others. This film focuses on the female contribution to the community of wartime bereaved and generates renewed discussion of the human price of conflict.
