Director:

Anna Oikonomou

The story of a girl's relationship with her eating disorder, told through dance. A girl is looking at herself in her bedroom mirror. She seems troubled by her body image and grabs a measuring tape to measure her waist. When left dissatisfied by the results, she pulles aggressively onto the ends. By doing that, the girl and her tape get transported into an imaginary world in which the tape transforms into a colourful ribbon that comes to life in order to lure the girl into dancing with it. At first, they dance together in complete harmony but once the girl decides to let go of the ribbon and dance alone, the ribbon grabs her and starts to control her every move like a puppeteer. It then starts to manically wrap around the girl until it becomes a nook around her throat. The girl tries to break free but finally surrenders to the ribbon. At that moment, a hand, seemingly from the real world, appears and hands her a pair of scissors. Together they cut the tie. The girl wakes up in front of her mirror once more and realises what has happened. She, then, heads out to seek the help that she needs.

”kawauso” means Japanese river otter. One day, a girl meets a Japanese river otter. They try to communicate, but it doesn't go very well. This is because the Japanese river otter is already extinct, and it is not possible to actually interact with the girl. They existed in separate spaces. By depicting the Japanese river otter, which is said to have gone extinct in 2012, this short film presents an opportunity to reconsider what the modern society has sacrificed.

Without words, only through sound and light, the film explores the boundary between present and past, reality and its imprint.

“Sheltered” (Animated short) (G) A bullied puppy's dreams come true when he saves his animal shelter from fire. This is a universal drama of sibling rivalry and forgiveness. It’s inspired by the story of Joseph and his brothers from the Book of Genesis. This short film is for children under the age of 13. To make this story easy to understand for children around the world we have made it with no spoken dialogue. The story is told with only animation and music in the style of the Oscar winners “Fantasia” (1942) and “Peter and the Wolf” (2008).

This story is about the charm of dogs in Georgia. You can see them on every street, and each one is eager for your attention. All residents love them and care for them. I created humorous rules about how to pet dogs in Tbilisi, emphasizing how irresistible it is to simply walk past these adorable dogs. This animation could be more relevant now than ever, as Georgia has passed a law on monitoring stray dogs, and citizens are concerned about the integrity of state enforcement officers. This is a call to action and an emphasis on the fact that all dogs in Georgia are important and deserve the attention they deserve.

In one of Aesop’s fables, a crow is searching for water. It spies a pitcher— but the water inside is beyond its reach. So, the crow begins dropping in pebbles. One-by-one, they displace the water, and the crow quenches its thirst. This is just one of many fascinating displays of intelligence from corvids. Katharina Brecht digs into what makes this bold, brainy family of songbirds so smart.
