The horse straight up swimming into the ocean and disappearing into the mist is such a raw visual. honestly norally i skip horse girl stuff but this hits different. the mom hiding a creepy book in the wall instead of just talking to her kid is kinda annoying tho like just explain the lore. still the glowing birtmarks at the end got me hyped

And more: The primary source of tension stems from the mother, Brooke, who actively lies to protect her daughter from a maritime curse. The way Kerri Hill integrates Brooke's wheelchair into the narrative—as an established, fuss-free fact of daily life rather than a subject of pity or a didactic lesson demonstrates high-level professionalism and a deep understanding of character design.

The script masterfully grounds its mystical elements by tying every supernatural rule to tangible physical objects: a jammed compass, a leather book with a heart-shaped stone, and a glowing birthmark that reacts to the white horse. These repeatable rules create a rock-solid foundation for the fantasy elements. While the production will require significant investment due to complex animal safety and water sequences, it offsets these costs by utilizing contained locations like the coastal haunted pub.

SANTIAGO is an incredibly compelling piece of writing — atmospheric, cinematic and completely original. From the moment the mystery begins to unfold, there is this constant feeling that something much bigger is hiding just beneath the surface, and I found myself wanting to know what was going to happen next. The combination of horses, family, mystery and the supernatural makes this a story I would genuinely love to see brought to the screen.

Most writers describe magic. She stages it. I finished the excerpt wanting the whole season. What struck me most is how much I understood about these characters from a fragment. I finished the excerpt wanting the other twenty-six pages and the season behind them.
