Blanche, a young Londoner, lives in seclusion in her home with her paintings - Botticelli's The Birth of Venus and Frida Kahlo's Self-Portrait with a Monkey - as her only company. One morning, when she opens her window at Venus's request, she meets Elmer, a young man who walks past her every day. From that moment on, a relationship develops between them, closely commented on by Venus and Frida. When Elmer asks Blanche out for a coffee, Blanche refuses because she can't go. Venus interferes, encouraging her to go, Frida dissuades her and Blanche hesitates. Will she go out in the end? Will she join Elmer? Will she stay inside? And why does she lock herself in?
